General description
The Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research, of which S. Offermanns is the managing director, is an institution of the Max-Planck-Society, an independent non-profit research organisation. The institute has 350 researchers and staff. Research groups study various aspects of the development, physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular and metabolic system. Doctoral students will be part of the Max Planck Research School run by the Max-Planck-Institute together with the Universities of Frankfurt and Giessen.

Key research facilities, infrastructures and equipment
The institute has state-of-the-art facilities for the generation of genetically modified mice, in vivo phenotyping of cardiovascular and metabolic functions, cancer biology, proteomics, genomics and in vivo imaging.
